Happenings: Lunch With Strangers

Updated: 4 days ago

We live in a time when everyone seems to be rushing past one another, speaking or texting on their phones, chasing deadlines and targets or caught up in the rat race with little or no time to spend with family and friends, the company of people—even if they are total strangers—can be a pleasant and unexpected change.

Picture this.

One evening, at a restaurant in Bandra, a group of people from mixed backgrounds and probably little in common arrive one by one and share a table with someone they have never met. They are there not just for the culinary delights, but to meet others and make new acquaintances and friendships.

Social Sailor, an Indian creative events company, aims to do just that with Lunch With Strangers—Good Food. New Friends, a premium social dining experience where strangers meet, have conversations, eat together and leave as friends.

The event, which Social Sailor describes as “It’s not just lunch—it’s networking, bonding, and storytelling rolled into one,” is open to anyone eager to expand their social circle, those who love meeting people over food, and foodies who know stories taste better with meals.

Lunch With Strangers will be held from November 4 to December 13 at several venues—restaurants, pizza joints, cafés and bakeries—across Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi and Kolkata. You can click on the links above to find out more about the events, timings and prices.

Social Sailor, a pan-India partner of Social—one of the largest F&B chains in the country—curates and hosts a wide range of boutique events, including art workshops (resin art, fluid art and canvas painting), pottery dates (interactive clay sessions for individuals and couples), and social meetups (where people can meet and connect in a relaxed setting).

In a world where we often text more than we talk, events like Lunch With Strangers are a reminder that good food and good company still go together. As the American chef and food writer, Ruth Reichl, once said, “Pull up a chair. Take a taste. Come join us. Life is so endlessly delicious.”

Maybe it’s time we pulled up a chair and realised that strangers can be friends, too.
